How to Find Your Employment Agreement

Most people sign their employment agreement once and never look at it again. Here’s exactly where to find yours — in about five minutes.

1. Check Your Email

This is where most people find it. Search your email (both personal and work) for these terms:

Search terms to try

  • “employment agreement”
  • “offer letter”
  • “DocuSign” or “HelloSign” or “Adobe Sign”
  • “sign” + [company name]
  • “onboarding” + [company name]
  • “PIIA” or “proprietary information”
  • From: hr@ or people@ or talent@

Also check these folders

  • Spam / Promotions (HR emails sometimes land here)
  • Sent (you may have forwarded it to yourself)
  • Archive
Tip: Many companies send agreements to your personal email before your start date, then re-send to your work email during onboarding. Check both.

2. Check E-Signature Platforms

If you signed digitally, a copy is automatically stored in the platform’s document vault. Log in with the email you used when you signed.

DocuSign→ Sign In → "Manage" tab → search by date or company
HelloSign (Dropbox Sign)→ Sign In → "Documents" tab
Adobe Sign→ Sign In → "Agreements" section
PandaDoc→ Sign In → "Documents"
BambooHR→ Sign In → "Documents" section
Tip: You might have created an account on one of these without realizing it. Try “Forgot Password” with your email address — if the platform recognizes your email, your documents are waiting.

3. Check Your Company's HR Portal

Most companies store signed documents in their HR system. Look for a “Documents,” “My Info,” or “Personal” section.

Workday[company].myworkday.com → "Personal" → "Documents"
BambooHR[company].bamboohr.com → "My Info" → "Documents"
ADPadp.com → Sign In → "Myself" → "Documents"
Gustogusto.com → Sign In → "Documents"
Ripplingrippling.com → Sign In → "Documents"
Paycompaycom.com → Sign In → "Documents"
Tip: If you’ve left the company and lost portal access, email HR directly. Former employees have the right to request copies of agreements they signed.

4. Ask HR Directly

If you can’t find it digitally, just ask. This is a completely normal request.

If you currently work there

“Hi, could you send me a copy of my current employment agreement and any related documents I’ve signed (PIIA, non-compete, etc.)? Thank you.”

If you’ve left the company

“Hi, I’m looking for a copy of the employment agreement I signed when I joined. Could you send that to my personal email?”

You do not need to explain why you want it. HR fields these requests regularly.

5. Check Your Files

On your computer

  • Downloads folder (search .pdf)
  • Documents folder
  • Desktop

Cloud storage

  • Google Drive
  • Dropbox
  • iCloud Drive / OneDrive

If You Never Signed a Written Agreement

Some employment relationships don’t have a single written agreement — especially at smaller companies. If you never signed anything formal:

  • You may still be subject to a signed employee handbook or company policies
  • Check if you signed a PIIA (Proprietary Information and Inventions Agreement) separately — these are often a distinct document from the main employment agreement
  • Check if you signed an NDA or arbitration agreement as a standalone document during onboarding
  • Your offer letter itself may contain binding terms (non-solicitation, at-will confirmation, equity terms)
